Larry W. Moreland, MD, is the Anna Lois Waters Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Moreland is the Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the School of Medicine. Also, he is Director of the Pittman General Clinical Research Center and the Arthritis Clinical Intervention Program.


Dr. Moreland is a graduate of West Virginia University. After completing an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the West Virginia University Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Immunology and Rheumatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he continues to work today.


Among his many awards and honors, Dr. Moreland has received the Max Cooper Award for Research Excellence at UAB. He is Co-Associate Editor of the Pharmacology Therapeutics section of Arthritis Research. He is a member of numerous societies, including the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the American College of Rheumatology, and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Medicine and the Journal of Rheumatology and an ad hoc reviewer for numerous national and international medical and scientific journals, where his myriad publications have also appeared.


His major research interest has been the evaluation of biological therapies (and their mechanisms) that are targeted at the disease process in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
